Unhappy Login Window Failed to start in Debian

Hi all,
I've installed Debian Etch 4.0 in my system and also installed additional gdm. But when i restarted my system, the new gdm is not working and the default alone is coming. I tried to start Login Window Preferences, but nothing is coming after entering the administrative password. Can any one give me a solution to start the Login Window Preferences?
Thank you.

What is "the default alone"? Have you tried running
pkg-reconfigure gdm
?

Sorry, my bad ... that's dpkg-reconfigure.

And I still don't know what default login window alone might be.

Cheers,
Tink

To start gdm at boot time, you can do
Code:
#update-rc.d gdm defaults
