Login Problem, Session lasted for less than 10 sec
 

From last 4 days, whenever I try to login Fedora7, soon after giving the userid/password, it shows the following error and log me out.

Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem.

THIS IS HAPPENING AFTER I ENABLED FIREWALL AND SELINUX. I ve done the followings:

1. created another user, logged in using that, but same problem.

2. I entered single user mode and cleared the content of /tmp. Nothing happened.

3. In single user mode, I gave #setenforce 0. Then rebooted but no effect.

4. I entered single user mode and checked the permission of /tmp. It is 777. Nothing happened.

5. I entered single user mode and done #yum remove gdm, rebooted in console, given userid/password. Nothing happened.
Plz help me? Thanks in advance.

Did you check your system as suggested, are you out of free space??? Boot the system into runlevel 3 and log on as root then check by typing: df -h

If you are low on free space (Use# => 95%) on any partition then remove old files, clean up old log files, remove old rpm/yum updates and so on.

I ve checked the space, but 70% is free.

Then still follow the advice to find out what is wrong, boot into runlevel 3 and log on then use the typed command; startx

Review the hidden .xsession-errors-:0 file; cat .xsession-errors-:0

Are you perhaps running a third party video driver which is having an issue???

need help with the same exact problem. only the time frame is 12 seconds. thx for the command to view xsession error etc. will try it. did anyone come up with a solution for this?

once you find the errors how do you fix them? startx doesn't work. can restart in level 3 no problem.
