I have installed and reinstalled when I thought I'd missed this part. Installation seems to go fine but on first boot I'm asked for a login to the host and a password, both of which I did not setup in the installation. Is there a standard login that I don't know about? I'm an old windows user and am trying Slackware for the first time.
I am not a slackware user, but I guess you missed the password part. try booting in to runlevel 1 by appending 1 to the grub when it loads. there you can create a new user, by useradd command. check /etc/passwd for a user that you might have created there.
I don't even know what runlevel one is or how to get there, I'm as new as it comes to Linux. I get a boot screen and type in Linux and then a bunch of lines flow down until I'm asked for my login name and password. I thought I'd missed it the first time I installed so I did a fresh install and got the same. Can you give me a little more specifics on the installation of the required login and password? I have the root password installed it's the login to the host that's missing. Thanks
