login for first boot

I installed Slackware 9.0 (CD included inLINUXUSER) in a toshiba 220 laptop with interchangeable CD and floppy drives. Have tried several partition configurations, and am getting tired of re-installing, now have 1 boot part with 1.4Gb and 1 swap part with about 40Mb, my RAM is 64.
I had to make a bootdisk with another computer from the Slackware site. Now I can get to Welcome to Linux ... darkstar login:
I have entered my root password, but it keeps telling me Login incorrect
What's up and what can I do to get past this.
Thanks,
Bob

At the login prompt type "root" (no quotes). The next prompt will be Password and you enter your password.

During the installation it should have asked you to set your root password? Either your getting it wrong or didn't set one up.

You'll want to boot into single user mode to change your root password.

Thanks,
It's up and running now, I forgot all about root.
Now to start configuring and learning more about linux, it's an interesting use for an old computer. Browsing this and the slackware site has taught me a lot already. Still haven't got it to go on the net, but I'll try some more tweaking before I make a new thread.
