Login( can't authenticate)

Heres' my problem:

Okay I'm using RH 9 and updated the kernel. During this boot I tried to enable ldap. Now I'm getting the error message that it can't authenticate my user name and password.

I tried to login as root but this didn't work either so I reset the root password using "linux single." Still doesn't work.

How do I go about disabling the ldap service from command line. Or disable the current username/password authentication.

Any help on getting back into my box would be appreciated. BTW, this is a fresh install, and my second go at Linux.

boot the computer into single user mode (this might work) perhaps then it would rely on itself for verification instead of going over the network to an ldap.

second method would be to boot up via the redhat install cd's into rescue mode and remove the 'authenticate with ldap' settings.

I fixed it pretty much the way you said.

I logged in using the linux single from a boot disk. I entered authconfig and disabled ldap. This allowed me to log in. It also made me realize there's a problem with my Windows authentication server.

Thanks for the help.
