login as root from network terminal

Hi everyone

I'm using Fedora Core 3 and I know that's wrong linking to the system directly using the root account, still I need to do that inside the local network

I have trouble logging in as root from network terminals

I added the pts/0, ... pts/20, ecc. lines to securettys, as always
Still, the system replies Login Incorrect and in /var/log/messages I find the message "ROOT LOGIN REFUSED ON pts/[n] FROM voyager"
Is there any other place I can look to solve the problem?
Can anybody help me?
thank you in advance
Roberto

Are you using telnet or ssh? Have you check your configs on either that allows root login? Why do you need root login? Even if it is within your internal network, these still have links outside don't they? Your still not taking the logical security approach and should not login directly as root but rather su or setup sudo when you need to be root in all cases.

thanks, tricykid
I hadn't tried (until now) logging using ssh, and it ... works!
But even if I try a 'telnet localhost' from the very same computer, it doesn't
Wierd, isn't it? Anyhow, I log using my PC with NETTERM, and of course it doesn't worsk as well
Any other suggestions?
thanks in advance
roberto
