login as different user?

Yess I am very new at this.

I am looking to install a p2p app and have read that I should create a user just for these types of apps to make sure I minimize my vulnerability with any security holes.

I am running mandrake 10 using a gui. I start a terminal and am running as my default login. I have not figured out how to login as my p2p account. I can login as su but I would prefer to not work as root when I don't know what I am doing. I have not been able to logout - it just exits to console and returns me to the gui.

I could reboot and login as p2p, but want to be able to switch and run apps as p2p while I am working as my standard login.

I have tried Ctrl-Alt-F(n) but I have a problem with my Radeon 7500 All in Wonder that I haven't worked out. When I switch from F(7) to any other, the screen goes nuts. (This also happens when doing a restart - and while the the default Graphic resolution is being initialized.)

Actually, you can use su to login as any user, not just root. For example, if your p2p username is 'peer' then just do 'su peer'.
