login as different user?
Yess I am very new at this.
I am looking to install a p2p app and have read that I should create a user just for these types of apps to make sure I minimize my vulnerability with any security holes. I am running mandrake 10 using a gui. I start a terminal and am running as my default login. I have not figured out how to login as my p2p account. I can login as su but I would prefer to not work as root when I don't know what I am doing. I have not been able to logout - it just exits to console and returns me to the gui. I could reboot and login as p2p, but want to be able to switch and run apps as p2p while I am working as my standard login. I have tried Ctrl-Alt-F(n) but I have a problem with my Radeon 7500 All in Wonder that I haven't worked out. When I switch from F(7) to any other, the screen goes nuts. (This also happens when doing a restart - and while the the default Graphic resolution is being initialized.) |
Actually, you can use su to login as any user, not just root. For example, if your p2p username is 'peer' then just do 'su peer'.
