Exactly. I don't care if anyone crashes his/her OS because of feeling the need to run anything as root. But I do care if those compromised machines are used to fill up my mail accounts with spam. And don't cry if someone steals your bank accounts or buys things on ebay with your name. It will be your fault, not the fault of anyone else.

a second for TobiSGD's post
it is right on the money
we do not care about YOUR computer only what a rooted machine can do to US

1. It takes a lot LESS time to enter the root password than it does to reload Linux... :c)
WHAT?? To run as root there is and never has been a need to "reload" ( what reboot ? ) just run as root in a new session ( linux is not windows )
there is almost never a reason to boot into root . There are some exceptions as with everything .

However this is a very old thread for fedora 12 and fedora 15 is the current version. Now seeing as 12 is way past it's end of life why not just close this fedora 12 thread

John,

Sorry for the confusion... I meant that it is easier to su to root and enter the root password than to reload the Linux OS because it was trashed accidentally due to logging in as root...
