Ok, im a real :newbie: to Linux and wondered how to login to the root account (because the account i'm on is restricted.)

besides that, i just finished installing SuSe Linux 8, for some reason after the first two discs it stopped and im not sure if i can even log into the system shell yet... It keeps on saying it's unable to locate X Server... and im not sure what that means  , can anyone help?

thx, also i was wondering about this

the message is:

xset: unable to open display ""
xset: unable to open display ""
xset: unable to open display ""
ksplash: cannot connect to server x
kdeinit: Aborting $DISPLAY is not set.
Warning connect() failed: : no such file or directory
ksmserver: cannot connect to X server
Warning connect() failed: : no such file or directory
Error: can't connect to kdeint!
(i assume this is a display error)

i think you didn't make a full installation of your Suse linux, try to insert your suse cdrom and then select linux rescue and then follow the instructions, or maybe when the installations you didn't select x server package so you linux cannot open the x server.

I ever encounter this problem too, i was trying to figure why my x server would not start, then i just realize that i didn't install the x server package at the installations.

b'coz i don't need the x server. :p :p :p :p :p :D :D :D :D :D
