Logical order


Hello .. i'm a newbie in this are so please take me easy.
What is the logical order in installing and configuring a mail server ?
There are a lot of tools and programs and i can't find an order of their installation : qmail, vpopmail, ezmlm, autorespond and so on.
Can anyone help ?
