Hello,
I'm trying to login to a linux box using SSH from my Windows machine. I tried using Servers Alive and now Putty.
Here's the problem. I can remotely get to the linux machine and to the login prompt, but after entering my credentials, the machine locks and freezes the connection immediately, before displaying anything else. Then I have to close out and start over again. I know it's recognizing my credentials because if I type the wrong password it will tell me I'm doing so and give me access denied. It only freezes once the correct password is entered. This is happening on a few linux machines that I have, however, there are linux boxes that I can connect to also which makes it more confusing to me.
I'd suggest you tell us more about the machines, which ones are running which
version Linux, and whether there are differences in the varied files that are
being touched during/after login.

Is X11 forwarding on? Did you try to leave some process monitor (at least Windows built-in) visible - does it manage to show a sharp rise in some process'es CPU usage?
All the machines are running Red Hat 3. I checked the processes on the windows side and nothing is out of the ordinary. I initially thought it may be because the Linux machines are on a different subnet, but I'm questioning that because I'm getting a login prompt, so I know I'm getting to the machine. I'm not real familiar with Linux, but I'm trying to help a friend out with this. Thanks for the help everyone.
