Logging in problems with Suse 9.1

I recently downloaded Suse 9.1 Personal and installed it. Everything went fine until I tried to log in, I clicked 'jack' (my name) and then typed my 8 letter password, but it said 'login failed'. I tried again, but still didn't work.
I went into failsafe and when asked for password, i tried to type it in, but no letters came up, not even *s. Please Help.

Are you susre you entered the correct password?

Jacksteruk309 09-18-2004 09:57 AM

i'm pretty sure (BTW: the password thing that i chose during setup was the one that limited me to 8 characters)

try entering the password is capital letters (you may have had the caps lock on when you entered the password)

Was the password really for the user jack. When you installed you would have entered a password for the administrator account (called the root account)

Try logging in as the admin account (root) and use the password there.

Incedently SUSE is great, I just tried it the other day

i made the password the same for root and jack and all the other accounts. I'll go try the caps idea now.
