loggin on to my com from college
 

hey i'm quite new to linux and i was wondering if someone cud point in the direction of some good howtos. I just want to set up ssh so i can log into my com thru putty from college

What distribution are you using?

Sshd config file has it's own manual page. You can see it using 'man sshd_config'. The number of options is very high, but you don't need them all. Look into your own, default configuration file. It should be heavily commented, all used options described. It shouldn't be hard to tweak it to your needs, because default config makes sense and should work.

cheers my distribution is mandrake 9.2. Any other howto would be very helpful

I assume you are using a broadband connection with a fixed IP address or your ISP has set you up with a method to connect to your machine from the internet.
You will need to setup your modem to to provide the connection from the internet to your local network.
