Log Out and Shutdown Shortcut

Is there any script I can create that would allow me to shut down the computer and log the user out of KDE saving there session in the process.

I am running GDM and currently the only way out is to log out then shutdown from the login menu. This isnt too much of a problem but a more direct route would be nice.

The user would not be logged in as root so the script would i presume have to be put into super user mode before running shutdown.

The problem you're facing here is that a call to
shutdown or reboot from root (or the user via su
or sudo or using the sticky-bit) won't log the user
out in a soft manner, but rather send the XServer
a term which would most likely stop KDE from saving
the session ... and for all I know none of the WMs/
DMs support logout-scripts ... you may be stuck
with the manual shutdown via gdm ...
