Well, what I'm having happen is KDE is locking my computer up. I'm not sure if it's just the mouse and keyboard are stopping working, but I'm not able to CTRL+ALT 1 out of KDE. I'm right now on debian, and using kdm as a logon manager that is working okay. The point that is locking up is initializing periphials.
Now what makes it quite odd is that I've made it work twice with various settings only the next time I try it it locks up again. I'm not sure if it's because the mouse was giving it imput at the time, as I believe I was moving the mouse to see when it locked up.
I'm fairly new to linux, but I have been trying xf86config to try to get proper settings for it. I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I am running through a KVM. I will try to get any information anyone asks of me, but I'm not able to get onto the forums with that computer so I won't be able to post logs.
I've noticed that some edits to the XF86Config-4 file produce strange results with USB mouse/keyboard -- are your devices USB? If they are, and you've been playing with the XF86Config-4, you might want to try 'undoing' some of your changes unless you have a backup.
I haven't tried manually modifying just with xf86config. It's through a ps2 KVM, so ps2 line to KVM, then mouse to KVM, and same with keyboard. Display is also through the KVM which works
well, all I've done is
su
apt-get install x-base-system
apt-get install kdm
apt-get install kde
then when I tried to log into to kde it locked up. I don't -think- it was anything I did, though it could be with the xf86config, and I just need to do the keyboard and mouse better, but I highly don't think it was something I did. It's a logitech 3 button mouse through the KVM and one of the old old IAS keyboards again through the KVM
