locks up when I begin using
I just blew away my Win2k machine (AMD K6 500mhz, 256 RAM) and loaded RedHat 9.0. I keep having it lock up when I begin to use the computer. After numberous reboots, I have the system fully updated but it still locks after I start doing things.
I am new to Linux and have no idea where to go now. I have tinkered with bios setting but to no avail. Help Please! I want to begin using Linux because of a general dilike for Windows. Tim |
can u give a detailed summary of how the sytem hangs up when you do what?
also can you give the partition table |
Have you tried using the key combination Control-Alt-BACKSPACE when it freezes? This restarts just the graphics part of Linux (called "X"). If that works, (gets it working again) let us know. It narrows down the possible problem.

The system will be doing something like opening an app or opening mail messages and suddenly the mouse freezes and it is over.
No matter what I do I cannot make it unlock. How do I pull the partition table? I did the control-alt-backspace and that didn't do anything. tim |
