Question lock screen

I am trying to write a shell script which after receiving a first signal the screen would be locked and then on reception of the second signal the screen would be unlocked. Do I need 2 functions to do the job ? Should I look for the second signal from a while loop or from the unlock function ? I am lost

trap "lock" 1 2 3 15
trap "unlock" 1 2 3 15
