Location of Application Menu Entries
 
Am trying to determine the location of application menu items. Not sure if it is universal across distributions, I'm seeking this info for:

Ubuntu 7.10 & OpenSUSE 10.3
Gnome 2.x on both distros

I'm not as familiar with Gnome as KDE, but as far as I can tell (poking around a bit), it seems that the Gnome menu is handled primarily by config files in ~/.config/menus. The two files here seem to correspond to the two menus in Gnome, and each of these files have a <merge> tag in them (i presume that means the rest of the menu contents are stored in the referenced file).
