Loading Ubuntu 9.1 and receiving input/output errors

I have a brand new computer with an unformatted HD. When I try to load the Unbuntu 9.1 CD (CD came from a Linux magazine that I purchased) I get the following error:

(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: Input/output error
Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.sashfs

(initramfs)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

AlucardZero,

Thanks for the information. It was the optical drive that would read but not write.
