Loading Problems From ISO
I made the 3 boot disks for Mandrake 10 correctly, and i boot from cd, but it says "The system memory manager EMM386.exe has detected an error caused by a fault in one of the device drivers or programs loaded in the system. Due to this fault the system is probable in an unstable state, and you are therefore recommended to reboot the computer immediately. If the problem persistes, then try to isolate which program is at fault, then contact the tech upport department for that program. Hold down Ctrl and alt keys and press del to reboot, press any other key to just abort the current program..."
I have tried to reboot many times and pressed any key to abort the current program to no success. Any ideas as to why it just wont work? |
Does your hard drive have a working version of windows?
Does the initial Mandrake installer screen ever display? When you say you create the 3 disks correctly what application did you use to create the CDs? |
I have windows xp on right now and i never get any Mandrake screen, it doesnt get that far. I used Nero burner and used the create boot disk option.
|
Any Ideas?

Is your BIOS set to boot from CD-ROM? Right now it seems like your computer is booting straight off the harddrive (ie loading Windows) without checking to see if there's a bootable CD-Rom in the drive.
|
Im sure that it is booting from cd. If i put the cd in it boots to that screen, if i boot without a cd windows starts normally.
|
Can you boot from any other CD (a Windows disk you have around or whatnot) successfully? I don't know why it would be trying to load EM386.exe or telling you to Ctl-Alt-Del if it were booting from the CD
|
I booted from cd when i instaled xp. It starts to boot it just doesnt actually succeed to start the instalation.

this may sound silly but this is what i think may have happened. and i am terribly sorry if i am wrong with this .... but did you just burn the xxxxxxxxxxxxx.iso image to the disk so that the disk would only contain the xxxxxxxxxx.iso? or did you open the xxxxxxxxxxx.iso image and then burn the contents of that image to the disk? this was a problem i had when trying to install a whole new dashboard for Xbox... it is not just a newbie mistake persay... it is fairly common... i use Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6. and use creator classic. works great. nero just doesn't cut it... for me... it is worth paying for the product. if you use P2P then do it that way but i strongly urge to pay for it to support this mighty fine program

Under Nero the option is "Burn Image" where you can go and select the .img file to create a CD from, if the above is the issue.
|
well i know you can burn from a .img file. just double click on the icon and nero pops up and burn away. right i know. but the thing is. most if not all linux distros come fully packed in .ISO images. different from .img files. not only by the extension windows and possibly other OS's recognize but the attributes are completely different as well... all i am saying is see if you can open a .iso image in nero. like when you select to open a .img file in nero... do the same thing only when you open dialogue pops up there should be a drop down menu just below the file name field. see if there is a .iso there if so click and choose that and navigate to the dir where the said .iso resides. see if this helps any... and again sorry if this may be insulting if you have tried this.. but alas it is a common mistake i have seen a NetAdmin do it once. and boy did he feel foolish when i showed him his flaw... it was worth it tho. definately... lemme know how things turn out.

I have been burning the .iso file as an image using Nero burner. Do i have to burn it as an .img file? The only files i have are iso do i have to change them or open them somehow before i burn them?
|
Sounds like you burned them fine,I would download knoppix and try to boot that,I think there is more going on here than a bad burn, did you check the md5sum?
|
Ive burned and tried Mandrake Move but i cant get the other to work still
