Question loading G-force drivers

hey guys....

I am using Redhat 9

I downloaded the drivers for my graphics card from nvidia...but the file can only be run from kernel mode. How do I boot from grub directly into kernel mode, without loading the x server?

If i go into kernel mode from the GUI and run the file, it starts running and the tells me that it cannot run, because I am running an x server.

Please can someone point me in the right direction... is there a command I have to run from the grub command line or is there another way to do it, as i really want to be able to use the 3D capabilities of the card in linux.

You can chose the 'emergency' kernel in grub... (I think that is the name :P )

or once you are in the logging screen hit ctrl-alt-F1
there log as 'root'
then do a:
~# Killall kdm

unless you are using gnome then use 'gdm' or 'xdm' depending what u are using.
then you can install the drivers for nvidia
