Loading driver for wifi adapter Netgear A6100 to ParrotSec
I am brand new to anything computors. I am completely lost with the new OS. At the moment I am trying to add my NetGear A6100 wifi adapter. I realize this is not the best one to use for this application but it is all I have at the moment. Has anyone used this before? It has the rt8812AU chipset I believe. Thanks.
is wifi disabled by default on parrotsec (like it is on e.g. kali linux, a distro with a similar goal)?
i must say, parrotsec does not strike me as the best choice for someone who is "brand new to anything computors" and "completely lost with the new OS".
additionally, parrotsec seems to be poorly maintained, both the distro itself and support.
wouldn't you want to try some of the more user-friendly choices first, like mint or *buntu?
if you really want to continue with this OS, please provide the output requested here.
So I have read your replies and thank you for them. I have since changed my OS to KaliLinux after further research. I am still stuck with the same issue with my adapter Netgear A6100 and the 8812AU Chipset. I chose ParrotSec at first based on researching 'best OS for beginners' and it seemed suitable. However Kalilinux has been easier thus far. Thanks for the patients here. I have 2018.2 installed sucesfully, have apt-get update $$ apt-get upgraded already as well as a few other basic suggested things to do upon install. Now back to installing proper driver for my adapter. I also have a TP-Link Model TL-WN8200ND adapter handy but I do not believe that one is compatible. If you could prompt me with command I can post output I have tried various ones I find online with no success so far. Thanks so much for the help.

Hi oceanoutlaw7cs,
It's a bit ironic that after taking the advice of the 2 members above, you would choose possibly the only other linux distro most of us would *NOT* recommend for beginners. I am curious as to what led you to believe Kali was a good choice for beginners - it is anything but.
This forum has an informative sticky post on Kali - I suggest you give it a read. Kali is a specialized linux distro developed by and for IT security specialists for penetration testing. It is not a distro for average use and definitely not recommended for linux beginners.
Highly recommend you look at Mint, Ubuntu or even Debian (or any of their derivatives). You'll have a more rewarding exeperience, in my opinion.
If by chance you really WERE looking for a specialized penetration-testing distro like Kali, it would be advisable to do some reading on linux in general before trying to use it.
Cheers - let us know if we can be of further assistance.

from the frying pan into the fire.
good luck with that.
and you still didn't provide the output i asked for.
but it's pointless anyway.
did you even read the docs?
no, of course you didn't. that's what "beginner friendly" means, doesn't it: instant leetness without reading a shred of documentation.

you have to learn to not trust random blog posts, and how to search the internet.
'best OS for beginners' is a much abused phrase.
Ok well I clearly get the picture here folks. I'm not choosing the right OS. To answer the questions #1 for the person who is looking for the output, I posted I am no longer using Parrot so facepalm I can't show you. Also I'm reading KaliLinux Revealved front to back as well as taking the free course online so I'm doing to best I can on that front. I was simply interested in trying to learn something new in life in a field I'm unfamiliar with but always had an interest. I'm a commercial fisherman in Alaska and thought learning something like this in the off season would be fun and possibly profitable way down the road. I'll look elsewhere for some more positive information and help. I appreciate the comments that wdre useful. I'll check out some of the OS' listed that may be easier for this journy, everyone starts somewhere. I have also looked into coding programs that I may use my verteran benefits on if anyone has some brilliant comments for that I all ears. Thanks again.

... hey there oceanoutlaw7cs ..
Firstly, let me apologize if my own post appeared to be too preachy. This forum sees a significant number of questions concerning specialized distros (especially Kali) from people who are at the beginning of their linux learning curve and I guess the tone of some of the responses (including my own here, perhaps) show a certain level of frustration. So again, sorry for that.
More importantly, your project sounds great. Learning linux after years of using and working with computers using other OSes was something I started to do myself about 10 years ago, or so .. Haven't regretted it. So I encourage you to pursue your plan. If you have an interest in computer technology and operating systems in general, I believe you will find it rewarding.
Also, concerning this forum. Contrary to the impression we may have given you, it *IS* actually an excellent learning environment and one of the more friendly ones I've ever come across at that. I myself started out as a help-seeker and was able to advance more easily with some of the stuff I learned here. Somewhere down the road, I happened upon the question of some other member that I actually knew the answer to, and *voilą* - I started helping out other people and haven't looked back.
Finally, concerning Kali, now that you know what it is and what it is not, if you are still interested in learning it, by all means go for it ! Although, as mentioned, it *is* a specialized distro, if you have a legitimate intended reason for learning it and, as seems to be the case, are willing to put in the time and effort, there are probably at least a few experienced people here at LQ that will be happy to help you along. So long story short - don't bail out on LQ just yet - we'd be happy to have you.
