Loaded Fedora 9 (twice) in encrypted hard drive, now I can't get past LUKS?
I loaded Fedora 9 on this old computer (maybe 3 years old) that used to have XP and I did the encrypted hard drive with password which is different than the root password. When it boots, it asks for 'LUKS passphrase', but it won't recognize it-it just keeps asking for LUKS passphrase. I know I'm inputting it in right, and I loaded Fedora all over again (it seemed to install fine and it asks me to reboot for the first time) and the same thing happened. What am I missing?

Without any error log lines I have no idea. If you can handle it try installing "plain" Fedora 10 and see if that works. Then maybe backup say /home, then LUKS encrypt it and see if that works. If it doesn't then there's probably better error output to see what goes wrong. Else check the Fedora bug tracker, there may be related problems shown with F9.

Thanks for the reply. I installed 'Puppy' (plain) and it seems to work OK (although I haven't dived into it too much yet)I'm going to check out true crypt and see how to run that. I thought that since it's a old computer, I wanted something really easy on resources so it wouldn't run too slowly. I see that you have about 15,000 replies-thats a lotta posts! In my very limited look around here it seems that some of the better motherboards for linux are ASUS and Gigabyte if you want a newer board-is this accurate or am I really off base?

They're certainly quality brands, and I have never had HW trouble with my ASUS, but I'm no hardware guru. Could check the LQ HCL, search the LQ hardware forum for check sites like Tom's Hardware?.. BTW the post count means zilch. People knowing they've been helped is what counts IMHO.
