Live USB won't boot - nouveau 0000:01:00.0: unknown chipset (168000a1)

Hello everyone,

I am having a hard time figuring out why this distro will not boot (parrot os live usb). It is UEFI and I have tried many distro using this usb. No issue except parrot os, it is strange.

This is my motherboard: ROG Strix GL10CS
I always use etcher to make usb and Secure boot is off.

So this shows up at some point during boot and then
Code:
nouveau 0000:01:00.0: unknown chipset (168000a1)
gets stuck here
Code:
iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: BIOS contains WGDS but no WRDS

I tried editing the boot command using 'e' in the grub menu (in various ways after some googling) but no luck yet.

Anyone could help ?

This isn't a motherboard. It is a complete gaming PC with an NVidia RTX2070.

What is happening here is that the open source nouveau driver for NVidia GPUs does not support your RTX2070 as it is too new. This is a common problem with the nouveau driver.

Unless the installer can work in text mode or provide some other workaround such as using VNC with a second computer you will have to find another distribution.

Some distributions have installers that support the proprietary NVidia binary driver.

Is that nouveau message about the kernel nouveau, or the Xorg nouveau? Maybe it's worth trying not to use the ancient technology, reverse-engineered, nouveau DDX? Purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and try again. Maybe the default newer technology DDX (modesetting) will work with a 2070?

This is a live USB they are using. How would they change the nouveau driver with a read-only .iso ?

IME at least some .isos installed to USB devices, when booted from, allow the distro's package manager(s) to alter what software is installed.

Removing xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is simply the easy way to not use the nouveau DDX. Alternatively, it can be explicitly configured via a Device section somewhere in /etc/X11/xorg.con*.
