Smile live cd setup problem

Hello , I'd like to learn how from a distribution as knoppix live create a new one with octave program in it and some other documents that i need in?
Also could you please tell me what kind of installation type files ubuntu uses. rpm, dev ???Just the type

1. For remastering Knoppix, there's some information in the Knoppix wiki:

2. As Ubuntu is Debian-based it uses DEB packages
