Is there anything that i need to change in bios?

how are you burning these discs? And what exactly are you burning to them?

tommcd 09-18-2009 02:16 AM

If you are burning an Ubuntu disc from Windows, use Iso Recorder or Infra Recorder.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
Be sure to burn the discs at the slowest possible speed. Then when you boot the Ubuntu live CD choose the option "check disc for defects". This will take a minute or two to run. If it passes without errors the disc is good.

I ordered ubuntu discs from ubuntu website by post...I checked the disks with other pc's and it works fine..But when i try to boot in my pc,it just freezes up with the logo...i cannot access the ctrl+alt+f1 terminal too...as far as knoppix is concerned,i downloaded from knoppix site and burnt using nero,i checked the md5 sum too..Its perfect and works well with other pc's and shows an "File System Not found Error" in my pc....I checked my cd-drive..it works fine...i tried 'knoppix nodma',it still didnt work..even 'knoppix failsafe' gives the same error..My another pc which runs windows 2003 server has the same problem..does it have anything to do with this problem?

Hi,

Try the laptop option with the 'noapic' for KNOPPIX from the 'ALT-F2' menu. You could just select the kernel and pass the 'noapic' to the KNOPPIX kernel at boot:.

also, try removing the the "nomce" from the boot line
when you start the knoppix cd
hit tab
and delete nomce from the boot line

Ordering the CD from ubuntu.com does not rule out a bad disc. Those CDs could possibly sometimes be bad also. Did you run the option to "check disc for defects" on the CD you got from Ubuntu.com? How exactly did you check the disc on other computers?

You might want to try downloading the 32 bit alternate install CD from Ubuntu.com:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/down...rors#alternate
This is a text based install CD that will avoid any potential difficulties with your video card.
According to Phoronix though, the intel G41 has been supported in linux since September '08:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item&px=NjcxNA
Still it is possible that the live CD is having problems with your video. There have been a lot of problems with intel video cards in Ubuntu 9.04 that are due to major upstream changes to Xorg and the intel drivers. I would try the alternate install CD at this point to at least rule that out.
Burn the CD with Iso Recorder or Infra Recorder instead of Nero as per the link in my last post. And check the Cd for defects before you try to install Ubuntu with it.
