hiya

further to my previous post please could anyone send me a link to download a LiveCD i'm keen to give it ago but just a little more assistance is needed.

When I boot from the LiveCD if it recognizes all my hardware and everything works off CD does it mean everything will work when completely installed.

second part is yes and no.

That is because some live cds are dedicated to be live only and can not be installed...so you might choose an install cd instead...which you have not tested....so problems?

I know I am being picky...but it is better to forewarn you that there are several types of live cds that can be broken down in various ways including:

live cd with installer to hard drive
live cd with no installer
live cd not installable but has a installer cd from same distro
live cd that has usb stick installer only


well you get the idea.

2) The problem is further expanded because a live cd system does not make a good hard drive format but generally live cds use compression and formats like squash and compressed initialram disk images

Generally speaking, most hardware will work on an up-to-date Linux system, unless it's a very new piece of hardware (or a very obscure/unmaintained distribution).

If you aren't sure about a particular piece of hardware, most distributions have hardware compatibility lists that may tell you if your particular hardware works, just Google for the name of your distribution and “HCL”. Unfortunately, it isn't always easy to identify a piece of hardware, and HCLs are often not kept properly up to date (since they tend to rely on contributions from end-users who often do not have multiple types of hardware device), so this isn't always ideal; that said, if you find an HCL that lists your hardware then you should know that it will definitely work.
