Listing files


Just curious if I do ls -l

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 24312 Jul 20 15:37 filename


What is the 1 indidcate?


Also, how do I list the total number (count) of files in that directory.

1 indicate hardlink count
to count number of file within a directory
ls | wc -l
