LinuxMint 17.3 KDE
 

I dual booted my laptop today...LinuxMint 17.3 KDE with Windows 10. All is well, but I don't like the KDE, and would like to use LinuxMint 17.3 Cinnamon. Do I install from a burned ISO file?

I have done a similar process when switching from Cinnamon to MATE 17.3 and I believe that this should work, as an alternative to a fresh installation of Cinnamon.

Open Terminal:

Next:

Close Terminal.

Now, log out (not shut down) from your user session.

You will see the login prompt.

Click on the lambda icon in the top right corner of the login prompt.

Click on Cinnamon and the letter in the top corner will change to Ci.

Then sign in.

Despite beachboy2's great answer, I would suggest that since you're at an early stage in the process, you reinstall Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon from scratch.

This will give you a clean Cinnamon experience without the myriad of packages and dependencies that KDE installs (and I say that as a fan and user of KDE).

I agree with you. I would do a fresh installation.

It takes very little time.

Just compare that to doing a fresh installation of Windows 7, which takes several hours!

Thanks to all....I had other problems... with KDE not accepting my passwords... so I did the fresh install...went into Windows 10 and picked the partition that LM was on and deleted it (made it non-allocated). This morning, I did a fresh install, and all is well.:)

Great to hear! Have fun learning all about Linux, and do let us know if you encounter any problems that can't be solved by a bit of Google-fu.

I am including the time to install Windows Updates up to the current date, not just getting W7 up and running. That is the easy part.

I have done two of these installations recently. One was my own machine which needed more memory and a 64 bit version of W7 to enable the whole 4GB to be utilised.

The other was for a laptop which I wanted to sell.

I am not planning to repeat the exercise ever again.

I almost lost the will to live!

I should point out that I only use Windows for the benefit of friends and locals who need assistance with their many and varied MS Windows problems.

But for that, I would only use Linux.
