I downloaded and installed Linux XP 2006 from the link oferred in here. While using it a message asking for the activation code kept apperaing on the task bar. Is the use ot this program limited to a certain number of boot?

Linux XP is free only for a trial period. Details here: http://www.linux-xp.com/get/
There are lots of other choices that are totally free of cost. If you really want XP, then the current version is 2008. |
Linux XP?!!! what the HELL is that??!!!

By any chance did you look at the link that I provided? Or, perhaps you might have looked at distrowatch: http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=linuxxp Linux XP is currently #49 on the hit list. |

Out of curiosity I thought I'd download this Linux XP install it in a virtual machine to look at. So I went to the download page on their website at http://www.linux-xp.com/get doesn't actually do anything. The href value is # and there is no Javascript anywhere to trigger any action. I thought I'd point this out to them via their feedback form at http://www.linux-xp.com/contacts/ only to find that it won't submit. The button with Send... written on it doesn't actually do anything when clicked, quite possible because it's an input with a type of 'button' rather than 'submit'.
I thought maybe something about my Firefox set up was causing these problems. Surely they value the image projected via their website enough to make sure there aren't glaring issues like this. What company wouldn't? So I tried all this again with a different web browser and got the same result. I hope for their sake that the quality of their website is not indicative of the quality of their product! |

They used to have a fairly unpleasant statement on their website about how free software is not very good, other developers are idiots and they are going to perfect Linux. Strangely that has disappeared. They make a horrible distro and then lock it with product activation for the true XP type experience. Quality through and through..... |
I found a link to their ftp site on distrowatch and downloaded the ISO for 2008. Fired up VM Ware, created a new machine, booked from the ISO, hit enter as instructed to start the installer and... it says "Loading Buslogic driver...' and that's all it does. Not impressive at all. I was quite curious to see what this distro is like but now I'm content to assume it's rubbish without ever having actually used it :)

Not that I like "Linux XP" either, the very idea of it. |
