Linux xp 2010 live cd
 

hi all, i saw an advert in e/bay selling Linux xp 2010 live cds, i never heard of this and taught any thing Linux was free to download and burn but i cant find a site that dose not want you to pay for it, dose any one know where i can get it. thanks in advance Dave Jones.

There are lots of great - and completely free - distros out there. Fedora, Ubuntu, SuSE, and SimplyMepis come immediately to mind as several that I can personally vouch for.

I would avoid "Linux XP" like the plague. For example:IMHO .. PSM

hi and thanks for the reply.to be honest the only reason i wanted to try Linux xp 2010 live cd was because i had read that it had a great deal more xp friendly drivers etc than the ubuntu 9.4 and fedora 12 which i have both looked at.although i found them both excellent i had a great deal of trouble with what should be simple tasks such as copying a dvd or getting them to recognize an external dvd writer or hard drive and then trying to find dvd burning software for Linux seems to be impossible,i popped a dvd in then was told the codex wasn't correct, please search for drivers?for the media player and was then told,could not find them. i installed ubuntu 9.4 along side xp and then was told i did not have enough space on the hd to upload the updates available which was odd as i had 63 gb left on the hd. it would not recognize my wireless dongle and then it seemed like i had to go through a lot of long winded info which i didn't understand to try and get it t work. please don't get me wrong,i think Linux is an excellent os and hats off to Linux for making there stuff free as a great deal of us out here are are not at all well off.i will heed your advice a steer clear of the xp thing and take more time to try and get my head around Linux stuff.thanks once again...dave.

I don't understand your grammar but Linux is free to download and burn.

There are places where you can order CDs by mail, and there, of course, you have to pay for shipping and the physical plastic disk.

I would also avoid things like "Linux XP". And persolally I hate the way some people want Linux to look like Windows, that just defeats the whole purpose! Besides, how can a *slightly* different theme throw you off so much?

I don't know, it looks like an interesting idea. It seems to be built on standard open-source tools, and ISO's can be downloaded free. I'm assuming the ebay vendor is selling disks not licenses. They're free to do that with this or any distro, just as end-users are free to tweak Linux-XP or ditch it for a more "mainstream" distro.

If it offers another choice, I say more power to them! To each their own, after all. I might even fire it up in a VM, and see what it's like.

hi,i have decided to follow paulsm4s advice and totally agree with you, im not looking for a windows xp look alike, Ive got xp,i just prefer Linux stuff because of the lack off registry clutter etc that you get with windows and Linux is safer and faster and im also happy to pay for stuff that works (when i can afford to). looking forward to browsing the forum and getting help from you guys and thanks..only joined up last night.read my reply to paulsm4.

I have also experience this.

I download the linuxxp it was 7 now i can see 2010. It was working fine but i can not update this or install packages, then i came to know that it was licensed and can not update it. i worked on it but could not find the solution. It was same as linux but GUI was something like windows. Then I shift to CentOS.
