Linux + Windows HOWTO Questions

I'm reading through the Linux+Windows HOWTO document. I had a few questions regarding some of the data. It hasn't been updated since 2001 and I'm concerned that newer hardware and later distros may cause these reccomendations to be incorrect.

In the HOWTO they reccomed a partition configuration like the following:

1. 33% Windows
2. 33% Linux

(with both bootable partitions residing below 1024 cylinders)

3. 64MB Linux Swap
4) 33% Data

I'd like to use this configuration or something similar, because it will make sense for me to have a shared data drive. Here's my questions:

1) Do the bootable partitions still need to be below 1024 cylinders? I'm running a 1.5GHz pentium with either a 40G or 80G harddrive. (Can't tell which because recent events have made it impossible for me to see part of the harddrive. Right now I'm only showing about 10G.)

2) Does the swap space still require 64MB? That seems like it might be a little low for todays programs, but coming from a Windows background with bloated code and all, I don't know how true that is for Linux.

Thanks!

1) no, if your distro uses lilo newer than 21.7 i think, or any grub ever then you'll be able to put it wherever you want.

2) i'd say use more for the sake of it, on an 80gb drive you can't seriosuly miss 500mb.... it mmay well never all get used, but as long as it's such a small space relatively, you won't miss it.
