Linux Windows 98 cable sharing weirdness.

OK, I have a Windows 98SE machine with a cable modem and a hub. The cable modem is plugged into the hub, the 98 machine is plugged into the hub and my Linux machine (Mandrake 9.1) is plugged into the hub.

Here's what happens:

I can get on the internet fine on the 98 machine but if I get on the internet on the Linux machine it steals the connection from the 98 machine. I can use the internet in Linux until I close my browser and then it stops working too. I can no longer use the internet on the 98 machine until after I shut it down, turn off the modem for 30 seconds and then restart everything.

Am I stealing the IP address or something? What do I need to change? Thanks a ton...

It sounds like your router/hub is misconfigured. The router is supposed to do just that - route the network traffic between the win 98 box and the linux box. I suspect you'd have the same problem if you hooked up two win 98 boxes to the hub. Either that or your ISP has a block on connecting more than one box. You may want to check with them.

The post does say hub, not router. It sounds like you need a router.

I just wanted to update this a say that apparently it was just a http server program on the Windows machine that was screwing everything up. But now I have a new problem that I need help with:
