ok, what driver is the hard disk controller called? is it under scsi?

Somehow that's exactly what I expected.
My answer: I have no idea.
Why? Because I don't know your hardware, or the hardware the virtualization-solution you use (I don't even know which that is) emulates.
Thus you will have to check which driver you need.

That's the tricky part of compiling a kernel, and if I remember correctly I even mentioned that your first kernel probably won't work because you'll forget a driver you'll need.

So, look at the options, look what's the hardware (lspci helps a lot) and make the right choice.
