Linux ver of Norton Utilities?
 

First, I did do a search for disc cleanup utilities and came up emptyhanded.
So, with that as prologue, is there a package like Norton Utilites that will do disk cleanup? I'm only slightly paranoid and use NUPro on my WXP box all the time. The sort of cleanup I'm looking for is whacking temp files, defrag, and cleaning up whatever the Mandrake 9.2 equivalent of WXP's registry is. If it exists.

no need for defrag. fsck runs at boot. here is a link to a similar thread i posted some time ago, as i am also concerned w/ sys maint.

linux doesn't have the same problems as windows.
Defragmenting a linux file system isn't really necessary.
No registry equiv either. Most configuration files are located in /etc. No cleanup required.
As for filesystems checks there is fsck, reiserfsck. Which will repair linux filesystems. A file system check is automatically performed after a specific number of boots and is configurable. The autocheck at boot is determined by each filesystem entry in /etc/fstab file.

You can configure MDK to delete temp files on boot. The setting is somewhere in the control center. I'm not at a linux box at the moment.

You really won't need to defrag your linux drive. In the way the file system works files don't get scattered about the way they do with that "other" OS.
When you install new software from source, after you "make", and "make install" you can run "make clean" which will clean up any tmp files that were created during compiling. Check out the man page on fsck for more info.

Thanks, gang! That is indeed a load off my mind. I have to run Norton practically every day to keep my WXP box from runningout of disk space. IE6 usually leave close to 2MB of trash every time. And don't even mention cookies, tmp files and other frivolous garbage.
