Wink linux ubuntu reinstall

Hi, My previous install of ubuntu would not load the desktop! I looked in the forums and got some very helpful answers but, I could not get it to load as default so I am doing a re-install using the whole hdd. What pitfalls should I watch out for, please? I am using ubuntu 11.04.

Many, many thanks,

Backup your important data.
I would create a separate /home partition.

Kind regards

hi ,
Backup your important data.
sure enough do that .

But I was wondering. did your initial install had a smaller partition
so I am doing a re-install using the whole hdd.
Maybe you should just do a reinstall on the same partition and it will work fine. It most probably could be a problem with some files not installing properly from the install media. So do a media check before you proceed with the install .
Just a couple of thoughts on the following issue:-
previous install of ubuntu would not load the desktop!
BTW What size was the partition ? and also try and give the forum some idea about your hardware ! it helps to assist.
