Linux Ubuntu Dashboard Adjustment?
 

I'm new to the Linux OS, and this is also my first post on this form. My question is Can you physically adjust the position of the dashboard? I'm familiar with Mac OS X where you could "Physically" adjust to the top, left, right or originally at the bottom. Is it possible and if it is, can someone explain to me the process on going about that? Thanks

I'm confused as to what you're referring to as the Dashboard.

On Mac OS X the Dashboard is what comes up if you press F12 (I think it's different key on newer Apple keyboards) and displays widgets over the top of the Desktop. (This: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashboard_%28software%29) but you can't adjust it to the top left or right as you describe in your post.

I'm wondering if you are actually referring to the Mac OS X Dock, but you can't put that at the top as you describe in your post.

Whatever it is you're referring to, there is insufficient information in your post for people to help you. You need to say at least what version of Linux you installed. A screenshot might be helpful. (Press the 'Prt Scr' button - that usually invokes a screenshot application.)

To the post two comments after the OP I have verison 11.4 of Linux Ubuntu, and What I was referring to as "DashBoard" Maybe I am classifying the term incorrect, but what I meant was on the left side there is your "Home Folder" Through Applications down to the Trash App, My question is There a possibility of moving whatever its called that whole margin of the applications such as the home folder down to he bottom, like where the Finder in the Macintosh OS is located at and Safari, but with the same style for the Linux Ubuntu. Thank you.

There is no 11.4 version of Ubuntu, you mean 11.04.

You are using the Unity shell interface for the GNOME Desktop Environment. This configuration is currently unique to Ubuntu 11.04. The component you are asking about is called the Unity Launcher. It's location on the screen cannot be changed.

Your right my fault, yesterday was my very first day using the Linux Operating System, still trying to learn. Thanks Arizonagroovejet. Is there any releases prior to 11.04 that you could move the GNOME Desktop Environment?

What do you mean by "Move the GNOME desktop environment"? Are you referring to the task bar at the bottom? Do you want a Dock like Mac OS X? Do you want to modify the top panel? Could you be more specific or even provide a screenshot?

Just change over to 'ubuntu classic desktop' on the login screen. The appearance of the desktop will change, but things shouldnt be locked in place like they can be with unity. Directions here-

BTW, 11.04 will be the last ubuntu release when gnome 2.X ('ubuntu classic') is installed by defualt alongside unity. With 11.10, gnome 2.X will not be installed by defualt, and I dont even know if it will be installable.
