Linux Ubuntu 12.04
I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed and a newbie to Linux and is having a hard time installing, software like back track 5. can anyone help put me on the right track?

Back track is not a software, it is a "Linux" just like Ubuntu. To install the different software included in Backtrack Linux, just open software center, search for them and click install. That's all, nothing else to do.
If you want to install Backtrack itself, then download the ISO and overwrite Ubuntu or install it alongside. But please define "having a hard time installing". We can't help you if we don't know the issues you have. Also, please change your thread title to something a little more informative if you want peoples to actually click on it. |
The thing is I want to Learn the lower level stuff about operating system and programming language and from reading a lot of help forums, it was advised to learn Linux. Since their are several distributions out there, which one would you recommend best to learn on, Ubuntu or Backtrack? and why?

BackTrack is a distribution made by network and security experts for network and security experts and in no way suitable for someone new to Linux. I would recommend to keep Ubuntu until you have a little more knowledge about Linux.
To start I would recommend these two links: http://linuxcommand.org/index.php http://linux.2038bug.com/rute-home.html |
