Linux Tutorial

Is there anywhere online that I could get a comprehensive guide on using linux?

I seem to be all over the place. I am trying to perform a reply to mail and can't seem to find anything with clear instructions.

I press [r] to start to compose my reply but then what? How do I send off my reply?

Is there some reputable online tutorial or guide someone can recommend.

Thanks.

So you want a complete guide to Linux to figure out how just one application works?
That seems counterproductive.

Why don't you tell us more about the particular software that is causing you grief.

Slackware docs are excellent. But for a particular program, the first port of call is usually the man page or (for a graphical program) the Help option.

I still don't get it

I type [r] to enter my reply

Then [~][.] to end my reply

To send off my reply the options I see are:

[~][!] command
[~][:] mail-command
[~][_] mail-command

I have tried all 3 above using sendmail or mail as the command/mail-command with no success

https://www.commandlinux.com/man-page/man1/Mail.1.html

Am I going crazy?

~. on its own line should both end your reply AND send the message.

For more details, see S-nail @ArchWiki. The definitive guide on the mail command is still Mail Reference Manual from the year 1997.

FYI, mailx is rarely used interactively nowadays. The most used console mail clients are mutt and alpine.

Much thanks. In all that I've been looking at nowhere said that explicitly.

Thank you.

It's not necessarily Slackware-oriented, but Going Linux is an excellent resource. Their motto is for Linux users who "just want to get things done."

Hi all.

I ran the ifconfig eth0 command but I am getting back hexadecimal values for some address.

Anyone came across this before?

Yes. https://docs.slackware.com/slackbook:network

I also enjoy discovering the millions of Linux details, but web-searching is more productive.
I do it like a 'treasure-hunt' for the best keywords.

Would you be willing to work-thru a book on Linux, that covers the most relevant/useful hundredS of things?
(Or do you prefer to free-flow discover things as you go? That's ok too.)

ENJOY! (I do!)

Is that the IPv6 address? or the MAC address?
