Final attempt was using a 2GB prebuilt FreeDOS memstick image ( https://www.chtaube.eu/computers/freedos/bootable-usb/ ), flashing that to the
USB, and then copying i386 (XP) folder to USB. Now, for whatever reason, I’m getting crazy errors, formatting and restoring the image, to the USB drive...
Unetbootin doesn't make Windows boot disks. Windows provides a utility to put an ISO on a USB, but surprise surprise, it only runs in Windows, and in my experience it doesn't work.

If you're having issues making a bootable Windows installation drive, that's Microsoft's problem and has literally nothing at all to do with Linux. I suggest contacting Microsoft for help, they're the ones that provide support for their OS and installer tools.

Why on earth you decide to register on a Linux forum in order to ask how to install Windows boggles the mind.

I'll try to get back to this sometime this weekend, thx all!

If you have Ubuntu with Grub2 already installed, you can use the method explained at the link below to create a bootable windows install usb. I used it with 7 and 10. Read through it before you begin.

I agree with using GRUB. Wonder if once the usb is setup with an O$, if running
Code:
update-grub
from ubuntu will work?

XOSL looks too old.

Yancek's link looks good... I see lots of links searching how to make a yada-yada live usb or something eg: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-run-a-p...dri-1565509124 &c.

(Ps: I don't like putting microcoughed-losedough$ for automated ads sake as I don't support it so yada... )

Hi nsilano...

Another option would be to take your system to a local computer repair shop or technician and have them reinstall Windows 10. If there was a restore partition, it's possible that you wiped that and now will be unable to reinstall Windows 10 using that method. Verify that the shop's (or technician's) method of reinstalling Windows is legitimate and legal (according to Microsoft,) you may need to purchase a full retail copy of Windows 10.

Regards...

Also, just to point out, once a device is activated as a Windows 10 device, it can ALWAYS be reinstalled legally. You can use the Windows media creation tool to reinstall Windows 10, just make sure to download the correct version, skip over putting in a cd-key during install, and as soon as it's online, it'll activate. This is one of the (few) nice changes with Windows 10, it actually activates via the hardware, so if the hardware hasn't changed, then it'll activate automatically once online if it's ever been legally activated with Windows 10. Doesn't matter if you delete restore partitions, or if it was an OEM version, or retail, or upgrade, it'll work with the Win10 media creator doing a fresh install.
