Is there windows software that I can run to log in and emulate my linux terminal on a network?

You could use TightVNC which will replicate the remote computer's screen on the local one and will accept Keyboard and mouse input. It works both ways and is cross-platform and stable. I even get usable (just usable) performance over a modem.

If you're after a "proper" terminal login probably a dozen other members will leap in and tell you all about it.
