Linux Source Directory

Hello,

I am new to the LinuxQuestions.org website, and I've done some preliminary searching on this issue, both here and on Google, but I can't seem to figure this out. I know this is a real newbie question, so please forgive me upfront.

I am installing some new tarball compressed software. The configure script is requesting my "Linux source directory." The default here and everywhere I seem to look is /usr/src/linux. However, this is not the case with my SuSE 8.1 box. I do have /usr/src/packages with BUILD RPMS SOURCES SPECS SRPMS listed there. Within the /usr directory I have i486-suse-linux directory - would this be my source.

Apologiees upfront for my ignorance and thanks in advance for any help provided.

Buck

it's not needed for normal operations, so it's not installed unless you tell it to. start yast search for 'kernel' and install
