linux software raid , same hdd size ?
 

hi , am new to raid systems .. and i was trying to setup a software RAID 0 on my vmware machine running slackware ..

my vmware systen is running 3 partition scheme, a swap partition and 2 type 83 linux partition .. and i was hoping to add another vmware hdd and setup a raid 0 ..

1. should i change the type of every partition in my main hdd to type fd including the swap ?


2. can i just partition the second hdd i am adding to a single big partition and intialise RAid 0 ?

3. should the HDD be the same size when setting up software RAid ?

It's usually a good idea to use disks or partitions with the same disk size - if any one is bigger then the other, then you end up having some amount of unused space, as the lower size will be used on both RAID entities.

Simulating RAID in VMware or VirtualBox just adds complexity to your tests.

You can also use RAID for partitions on a single hard disk. If you want to simulate hard disk failure, then make a lot of partitions to simulate replacement disks as well.

Actually it's not clear what you want to achieve and where you get stuck.
