i'm a newbie to linux...mandrake 9.2 installed flawlessly....i had hardware problems that were my fault for not recognizing....but when i figured them out mandrake worked great....if you have little experience with linux...it's nice to have a distro that installs easily...then you can start playing with the terminal command line and start using linux the way most of the experts do.

Okay, I'm going to chill. I'll stick to what I've tried, and I'm going to use Mandrake 9.2.

I'll get back on when I download and install it...

Thank you all, you've all been really, really great.

Oh, one more thing. Is i586 the same as i386?

If you're running a 386 no, if you're running a pentium or greater then yes
i586 is a version for pentiums and better (maybe using optimisations not present in lesser processors) whereas i386 means it'll run on anything greater than or equal to a 386.
