Linux safe to use via wifi?
 

Hello Everyone,

You hear about all the risk, security and privacy issues when using wifi.

I'll be out of town for a few days on an older ( el cheapo ) laptop that has wifi.
I plan to use the wifi from the place I will be staying @.

I have a laptop that has Win 10, but I plan to try out my Linux Mint that I just downloaded ( its on a boottable USB . I don't intend to install a V.M @ this time )

I subscribe to NordVPN ( It's not yet installed on this laptop ) but I was wondering is Linux Mint safe and private to use right out of the box ( figuratively speaking ) protecting my privacy and data etc...

Or is there a VPN I will want to use.

Any Idea , Suggestions would be appreciated,

Oh dear! I don't know why a moderator thinks a question about wifi safety is a duplicate of one about a distro for a Dell, or whether he's just given the wrong link...

As far as the old Dell is concerned, this desktop has an AMD Sempron comparable to a Pentium 4, and my laptop has the P4 based Pentium M, so it's certainly possible.

There are two distros with Xfce that will run well and are very reliable. Linux MX is based on Debian and highly regarded, although I've never got on with Debian-based distros myself. Then there's what I use on my laptop: Salix. That's just Slackware (the oldest living distro) with added user-friendliness. Both can be tried out from a live image, so I'd test each and make sure that things work as expected: printing is usually the only problem that can arise.

As for using public wifi, I've just used duckduckgo to search for "public wifi security" and found lots of advice, like

This confused me as well. They’re pretty clearly completely different questions.
