Linux runs under windows Domain ?

Dear friends ,

I have the following queries :

1) Let I have a windows domain server called "example.com" . If I want to run a Linux Machine or want to join my linux machine into this windows Domain (example.com) , then How can I do this ? i.e., If i want to join a Linux server under the Windows Domain server then is it possible to do ?

2) My second query is ,
In my Linux machine , after several times the Monitor is dark automatically . First time I think it is the problem about ScreenSaver and I have to disable the ScreenSaver option but cannot resolve the problem ? Can anybody plz inform , How can I stop this so that my monitor does not goes into Dark position after several times ?

Waiting for ur kind replies ... ..

Depending on which distro you are using, there may be setting for power management in a different place than for the screensaver. On mine (Mepis/KDE), it is in the display settings.

There are also some CLI commands for power management.

The domain name example.com is just a name. Not really a server. Do you want to use a computer running Linux as the OS instead for the web server? If so, this is very easy to do. After you install Linux, install a service named Apache which is the web server software to host a site or infinite amount of sites. If you are creating a complex web site or want to provide web hosting services to many people, a DNS server could also be installed.

It's always good to told your Distro and any other specific info regarding the issue.

It's the power management section of any OS that controls to turn off monitor or Hard Disks or put whole computer in sleep mode if it's not used for a particular time period. Try to google Power Management in RedHat Linux 9 ... put ur distro instead of RedHat linux .....

secondly that yes you can make a linux box memeber of an existing M$ Windows domain. just put ur domain name in smb.com .. u need to configure it as Samba Client.

third ur sentence "If i want to join a Linux server under the Windows Domain server then is it possible to do ?" .... is not much clear to understand.... If u wanna access any services provided by Windows domain .. let's suppose a shared printer then u have to configure ur linux box as Samba client to access resources on Windown mechines BUT if u wanna just provide any service from a linux mechine e.g. a local web server then u didn't need to force the linux mechine to be in windows domain to serve that service to windows clients...

i hope i can guide to whatever i got frm ur question...

I'm not too familiar with the windows domain issue, but I do believe it's possible, using Samba, as mentioned above. I really just chimed in to suggest a few places to look in regards to the screen dimming issue - the screensaver menu where you already looked would have been the first, also look for a "power management" menu, and finally, check your BIOS for any power management settings (even if they never interfered before, check; trust me on this one, I spent a week trying to track down a similar issue before finding it in the BIOS, despite it not having affected anything before, ever, neither under windows or under a different distro).
