Linux Redhat 9 as an Internet Gateway
I am trying to set up a home network. Currently I have the following configuration:
ISP --> MODEM --> ROUTER --> PC1 (WIN2k)
--> PC2 (LINUX RH9)
Everything works fine with this set up using the router as the INET Gateway.
I would like to configure Linux as the gateway, but I am not sure how to do this. Below is what I would like to do.
ISP --> MODEM --> PC2 (LINUX RH9) --> ROUTER --> PC2 (WIN2K)
--> PC3 (Future Addition)
--> PC4 (Future Addition)
I have installed 2 ethernet cards in the Linux box connecting one to the modem and one to the router. The Win2k box is using a wireless connection to the router.
I assume the default gateway for the router, PC2, and an future PCs would need to be the ip address to the Linux box.
Being totally clueless, my questions are:
1) If the ISP provides me with the IP address for the Linux box, and DHCP is enabled on the router will the router IP address change from the 192.168.1.1 IP?
2) Should I be connecting the Linux Box to the router using the INET channel?
3) Should I change the default value of the router from Gateway to Router at this point?
Any advise someone can give would be greatly appreciated.
