Sorry!
I though EV700 was the brand. Um, it has an athlon 3 processor. I am running by T1 Connection which is like DSL/Cable but faster. It has 1 harddrive 20g. It has 128 megs of ram. It has a NVIDIA video card. That's all I know. Does that help? Please reply fast.

I again am sorry for giving you the wrong brand. It is a Gateway though.

You can get dirt cheap Linux distros at
www.yourlinux.com
Red Hat 9 - Mandrake 9.1 = £6
Slackware 9 = £2
etc

What's "athlon 3"? I still think your cd's messed up. Did it work for your friend who gave it to you? Or did he just give you a copy that he never tried?

AAA,
I installed it on Full Server installation. Do you think that could be the reason? Would minimal installation cover the web server?

I am pretty shure that it has been used before. My friend who loaned it to me got it from his room-mait. Rob said he thought that his room-mait had it installed on computers at Sprint. But Im not sure if the disk has been used before. But Rob things so.

you need this and burn it as .iso and not regular file
Mandrake91-cd1-inst.i586.iso
you can get it on any mirror example:
ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/m.../Mandrake/iso/

Jatt_thugz,
I also see the same file but with CD_2. Should I download that has well? And AAA, does the minimal installation of Redhat8 provide a web server?

You can download all of them if you want, but if you download the CD1 file, you can test it on your system to see if it works. If it doesnt than theres no point in downloading other two iso's...if you know what I mean. Make sure you burn it as an .iso on the cd..if you dont know how to do that search it on Linuxquestions or post a query here.

Also,
Does Mandrake have a web servier and mail server?
I downloaded it and it took about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Does the asc file do any good? What is that for?

Mandrake is just like any other linux distribution. It has webserver(apache) and mail server. You can download and install anything on it.
asc file has md5sums. Its an algorithm through which you can make sure that you downloaded perfectly and that your download isnt corrupted. If you ask me, you dont really need to check that although some people will disagree.

i'm not sure if i missed something but...
y r u using redhat 8, use the latest redhat 9 (if you're up to downloading 3 more cd's
anyway, are u doing a clean install (completely wiping your hdd) or are u trying to dual boot?
if you are dual booting, i suggest finding a way to back up your data and then do a clean install
also, i hope u like mandrake, it is often looked down upon as a newbie distro, but i think even experienced users will find it very useful in allowing advanced work being done on it
