Unhappy Linux Redhat 8 won't boot! It just stops loading!

Computer: Gateway EV700

Hey,
I installed Linux Redhat 8 onto my Gateway EV700 computer and tried to boot it. When it reched "INIT: Version 2.84 booting". How can I fix this error? I have posted throughout the entire web, but nobody replies. Can you please help me? I really need help. I don't know how to fix this problem so it continues to boot. Can you please tell me how to fix the problem.

Thanks,
Nick

Have you tried booting it with startup disk?

Ok,
Yes, I have tried booting it with a startup disk. When I turn my computer on, it goes to the Linux Boot Menu. I select Linux 8 and it goes to a black screen and begins loading all my hardware. And as I said, it just stops at "INIT: Version 2.84 booting". I have found a solution, but it wants to get to a Interactive Boot which I do not have a clue how to get too. The URL is at bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/long_list.cgi?buglist=74499. Can you please tell me how to get this think working. I really want to use Linux as a Web server but can't get it working period. HELP!!!

Well, since it appears you never got in, you could try reinstalling Red Hat since you have nothing to lose. Assuming you haven't already done that and still got the same error.

So it's probably either an problem with your hardware or a problem with your cd (assuming that you're installing properly).
Did you try another cd? Another distribution? Maybe try your cd on another computer?

This is my only computer that I have besides my laptop which is for school! I do think there is some hardware issue since most info I've looked up says that It has to do with the video card. Do you know what to do? If you could IM me with yahoo, we could figure this out faster. My IM Address is: totally_cool2003. By this, we could discuss this matter faster and figure a solution at a faster rate.

The only advise I can give you is to try a different distribution..Mandrake for instance. Also, I suggest you check their supported hardware list before you waste your time.

I am putting it on a Gateway EV700. I do not know what it exactly has but it is compadible with Win 95, 98, ME, 2000 and pro, and Win XP. But, for some reason it does not want to work with Linux Redhat 8.

What should I do? I have heard tons of good things about Redhat 8 but I don't hear that much about Mandrake. I need Linux for a web server to host domains and I just want to set them up the easiest way possible. I really would like to get Redhat 8 working but I guess if I have to, I'll go to Mandrake. Also, what do you think is the best place to get the files for Mandrake. I barrowed the Linux Redhat 8 disk from a friend. I just want to know where to find it if I can't get Redhat working.

I don't think it's a video problem. Otherwise how would the install (which I think uses X) work? It is probably a problem with the cd. Try a minimal install and see if that works. Or, download a little linux on disk and see if that works.

Gateway EV700 is a monitor
http://www.saveateagle.com/gatev17colmo.html and tells nothing about your computers specifications example processor, mobo..etc > do you have high speed internet? If you do than just download mandrake 9.1 cd #1, it will not take you long and you can try installing that on your pc and see if it boots or not...

If you have highspeed internet or lots of patience you can download another distro. Maybe you can do it at some internet cafe.
