Linux Red Hat installation in Virtual PC
 

I am a new user to Linux and am trying to install (Red Hat Linux Fedora Core 2) in Virtual PC. The installation seems to be going fine until it finishes and reboots. After rebooting I get 2 error messages about the kernel. (Both below in the links)

My system information is:

OS: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Processor: AMD Athlon Dual Core Processor 5050e ~2.6GHz
Memory 4096MB RAM
Motherboard: JetWay JM26GT4-LF AM2
Harddrive: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA

According to your screenshots you are using a version with kernel 2.6.5. This kernel is very outdated, so I would assume that the version you are using is really old, and simply supports not to be installed in VirtualPC. Also be aware that Microsoft does not support Linux guests in VirtualPC. So I would recommend to either use VMware or Virtualbox, and to install a more recent version.
By the way, Red Hat Enterprise Linux is not free, if you want a free version go for CentOS, it is the same as RHEL, but without the branding.

Ahh, that makes sense. I had no Idea it was old. It was just handed to us in class to install on our computers at home. Thanks alot I'll try the other programs and other version of Linux and see if that works

It would be good to inform your teacher that those outdated versions may expose your computer to security risks and that it would be better to use recent versions.
